The film is jointly backed by Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions, who are making their Malayalam debut. Announcing the news, Lyca wrote on their X handle, " This Diwali, let's go guns blazing as the celebrations begin early with L2E – Empuraan 1st look releasing at 5 PM tomorrow" (sic).

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Empuraan, headlined by Mohanlal, has a script penned by Murali Gopi.
