Kannur Squad 2 in plans: Director Roby Varghese Raj

The Mammootty-starrer had a blockbuster run at the box office

A sequel for Kannur Squad is in the offing, revealed the film's director Roby Varghese Raj during a recent media interaction. Roby said that an idea for the second part was in the plan during the scripting itself. However, he refused to reveal any further details.

Scripted by Roby's brother Rony David Raj and Muhammed Shafi, the film is inspired by the real story of a group of policemen, called the Kannur Squad, who were entrusted with solving challenging cases. While Mammootty essayed the lead role of ASI George Martin in the film, actors Rony, Azees Nedumangad and Shabareesh Varma played the other squad members.

Hitting screens on 28 September, the film garnered positive response from all corners. It also emerged as a box office blockbuster, with the makers claiming earnings of over ₹100 crores from overall business. Mammootty produced the film under his banner, Mammootty Kampany. It is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
