In 2019, Karikku, the Malayalam digital platform known for producing comic sketches, short videos, web series and independent music tracks under various verticals, announced a film titled Thera Para. However, since the announcement, there has not been any update on the project.

Recently, the platform's founder and director Nikhil Prasad, in conversation with The New Indian Express, revealed that due to Covid-19 they had to drop the project. However, he also stated that they are working on another script. "Preproduction work is on now. It will have the Karikku core team in lead roles, along with some mainstream artists. I don’t want to reveal much now (smiles). Humour, of course, is the key element. I am directing it. It will be an old-school type, feel-good entertainer. It will be a comedy, with layers of other emotions." He also added that they are planning to release it this year.
