Makers release statement regarding Neelavelicham songs copyright claims

The film will hit the screen on April 20

The much-anticipated Malayalam film Neelavelicham, an official remake of the 1964 film  Bhargavi Nilayam, is set to hit the screens on April 20. The film, which has been directed by Aashiq Abu, has music by Bijibal. However, Aashiq Abu and Bijibal have received legal notice from legendary music composer MS Baburaj's family for using his songs without prior permission. By heeding the notice, Ashiq Abu's OPM cinema released an official statement clarifying the copyright claims. 

In the statement, OPM cinema confirmed that they have followed up with the recreation of the songs by following all the legal formalities. They stated that they had signed an agreement and paid the required compensation to obtain the rights to reproduce those songs. The statement also mentioned that Baburaj's daughter was informed about the pursuit of the songs, and the project started with her consent. 

They concluded the statement by saying the current dispute stems from misunderstandings, and the team has been communicating with Baburaj's family to clarify the issues. 

 Meanwhile, the 1964 film Bhargavi Nilayam directed by A vincent, is regarded as the first horror film in Malayalam. The film featured Madhu, Vijaya Nirmala, Prem Nazir, and PJ Antony in the lead roles. Neelavelicham stars Tovino Thomas, Rima Kallingal, Roshan Mathew, and Shine Tom Chacko in the lead roles.
