Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran is celebrating his birthday today and a string of updates regarding his new films is expected on this big day. The makers of his much-anticipated period epic Kaaliyan have released a motion poster, which has an illustration of a warrior sitting on a horse. Ravi Basrur has scored the background music for it. The film has Prithviraj playing Kunjirakottu Kaali, a great warrior and forgotten hero from the Venad kingdom.

Billed as an action entertainer, Kaaliyan is directed by martial arts expert and former journalist S Mahesh. BT Anilkumar is scripting it. In an earlier conversation with us, the makers had shared that Kaaliyan follows an episode in the life of a man who lived in the 1600s.

The film’s camera is handled by Sujith Vaassudev, who earlier worked with Prithviraj in his directorial debut, Lucifer. Rajeev Govindan's Magic Mountain Cinemas is backing the film.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj has some other projects in the pipeline including GoldAadujeevitham, Salaar, and his upcoming directorial ventures, Tyson and Empuraan.
