Unni Mukundan, who has had a busy 2022, is gearing up for the release of his next, Malikappuram. The film, directed by debutant Vishnu Sasi Shankar, is confirmed to hit screens on December 30. It is Unni Mukundan's sixth major release of the year after Bhramam, Meppadiyan, 12th Man, Yashoda and Shefeekinte Santhosham. Apart from this, he also did cameo roles in Bro Daddy and Pyali.

Malikappuram is scripted by Abhilash Pillai, who previously wrote Pathaam Valavu, Night Drive and the Tamil film Cadaver. According to the makers, it's a family drama with some fantasy elements. As the title Malikappuram suggests, the film has a female Sabarimala devotee as the protagonist. Child actor Devanandha plays the lead along with Unni. It also stars Indrans, Manoj K Jayan, Saiju Kurup, Ramesh Pisharody, Sampath Ram, Sripath, and Alphy Panjikaran. The technical crew includes cinematographer Vishnu Narayanan and music composer Ranjin Raj.
