Billed as a crime drama, Vela is centered around a police control room in Palakkad. Shane Nigam plays a constable's role, which is a first in his career. Siddharth Bharathan and Aditi Balan essay other major roles in the film.

Tamil composer Sam CS, who debuted in Malayalam with Odiyan, is handling the music in Vela. Suresh Rajan is the cinematographer and edits are done by Mahesh Bhuvanend. Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films will be releasing the film later this year.
