Karnan director Mari Selvaraj has tweeted in praise of Nivin Pauly's recent release Mahaveeryar. The film, directed by Abrid Shine, is an unusual mix of genres. According to Mari Selvaraj, "Mahaveerayar is a fascinating satire that makes nuanced statements about society, justice, the way it consorts with power, and the injustices unleashed on the oppressed, especially women."

Mahaveeryar stars Asif Ali, Lalu Alex, Siddique, Lal and Shanvi Srivastava in other major roles. The film has been lauded by many as a daring experiment. Though the response was largely encouraging, many could not comprehend the film's open-ended climax following which the makers recently tweaked the climax.

Mari Selvaraj meanwhile is working on Maamannan, which stars Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil, Keerthy Suresh and Vadivelu as the leads. The director will next be teaming up with Dhruv Vikram for a sports-based film.
