Noted Malayalam film producer and actor Vijay Babu of Friday Film House has been accused of rape by a female actor who had appeared in one of his recent productions. Following this, Vijay Babu, who is currently absconding (he is said to be in Dubai), appeared on Facebook Live on Tuesday night to claim innocence, calling himself the 'victim' and engaging in the unlawful act of naming the survivor.

On Wednesday morning, the survivor posted a lengthy note on the Facebook page 'Women Against Sexual Harassment' detailing the horrifying ordeal Vijay Babu put her through. The survivor wrote that under the guise of being her saviour for sorting out her personal and professional problems, he sexually exploited her. She added that she couldn't speak out until then because of his "clout in the film industry" and that he had lured several other women with the same trap.

The incident came to light after it was learnt that a case was filed against Vijay Babu at the Ernakulam City Commissioner's office. Vijay Babu has been charged under sections 376 (sexual assault), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
