Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is winning hearts worldwide for its rooted story and retelling of the popular folklore of Kalliyankattu Neeli as a superhero. Starring Kalyani Priyadarshan as Chandra aka Neeli, and Naslen, the film opened to critical and commercial acclaim, earning over Rs 200 crore in box office already. The film had a strong storyline that has set the stage for a wider Lokah Cinematic Universe with five chapters planned. However, the first film had several unanswered questions for fans to fill the blanks.

Here are some of them:

What is Moothon's real intention?

Moothon's sketch in Lokah Chapter 1

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra's biggest mystery was the identity of Moothon, a powerful figure whose face remained hidden throughout the film. That is, until a few days ago, it was revealed to be voiced by Mammootty. The excitement soared as fans were expecting to see both Dulquer and Mammootty on screen together. He is an all-knowing and mighty entity, no doubt. But what is his connection to Chandra and why does he summon her? Who all work under him and what are his real powers? Most importantly, is he a good person or a villain in disguise? Several eagle-eyed fans have already deduced that he is a supervillain as the elephant in his spear matches the logo in the shirt of the lady who attacked her in the beginning of the film.

What is Dulquer Salmaan's role in the universe?

Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan

Undoubtedly, one major theatrical moment in Lokah was the entry of Dulquer Salmaan. While taking refuge in a popular restobar's secret underground, Chandra and her team discover Dulquer Salmaan in one room. In a later scene, he eliminates the remnants of the organ trafficking ring, eventually revealing himself as Charlie, a superpowered ninja who is an Odiyan, a shapeshifter. According to Kerala folklore, they used to threaten and frighten people in the countryside under the cover of darkness and can shape shift themselves to a bull, buffalo, felid, jackal or whatever form they desire. Although we barely see him for a few minutes, his role and scope of his powers are expected to be explored in the forthcoming films.

What is the bigger role of the organ trafficking racket?

Kalyani Priyadarshan, Naslen and Sandy

Lokah's story begins with the police investigating an organ trafficking racket and Sandy's character Nachiyappa Gowda seemingly protecting these criminals. However, the film's trajectory moves to Neeli's story and the cat-and-mouse chase between Nachiyappa and Neeli to the point where Neeli and Sunny are named as key suspects in the case and branded as terrorists. Is there a wider significance to the issue or is it limited to the first part? Only time will tell.

What does Tovino Thomas as a chathan do and who are his cousins?

Tovino Thomas

Tovino Thomas' role in Lokah remained mysterious until the end. He has an attractive personality with Mask-like tricks up his sleeve. He is there when Chandra needs his help, but at the same time, one cannot fully trust this chathan, a goblin whose tricks harass people, but never do excessive harm. According to folklore, even when a chathan is slayed, each of his remnants emerge as a chathan. This is seen in the post credits scene of the film where he explains that a crime might be done by him or one of his 389 siblings.

What will part 2 focus on?

Kalyani Priyadarshan in Lokah

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra focussed on Neeli's story, her transformation as Chandra and how she adapted herself to changing times. Infact, centuries of change. She tells Naslen that she has to change her identity and move countries every 20 years. Hence, there are expectations on the second part to continue her story. The film also ends with Tovino Thomas' character as chathan mysteriously telling a man that ominous incidents linked to a deep cave might be connected to him or one of his 389 siblings. Hence, Lokah Chapter 2 might also focus on the chathan and his 389 lives.

Is Nachiyappa Gowda alive or dead?

Sandy as Nachiyappa Gowda

Actor-choreographer Sandy played a menacing villain as police officer Nachiyappa Gowda in Lokah, chasing Chandra and Sunny, pinning them as major suspects in the organ trafficking racket. However, after being bitten by Chandra and transforming into a vampire himself, he became doubly strong than Chandra herself and immortal. Following a lengthy battle, he was killed by her and his body was placed in a coffin and sealed. However, speculations are rife about his return to the Lokahverse. In a recent interview, he said that there is no death for a vampire and that there is a "100 per cent chance" that his character will come back in the coming films.

Who are the other supernatural entities?

Soubin Shahir, Balu Varghese, Ahaana Krishna, Santhy Balachandran

While there are enough cameos including Mammootty (voice role), Tovino Thomas and Dulquer Salmaan, Soubin Shahir, Balu Varghese, Ahaana Krishna, Santhy Balachandran, and Vijay Menon, also appear briefly in one scene, leading to theories that they might also be supernatural entities who are up on their toes to help Chandra if help is required. Although there is no confirmation, there is a good chance their characters will make extended cameos or play full-fledged roles in the upcoming films.
