Remember when Soubin Shahir's character in Alphonse Puthren's 2015 film Premam says that he "does not know simple steps"? Hot on the heels of his viral steps from 'Monica' in Coolie, it would seem like the actor was not joking when he said that. Fans are referencing the humorous moment from Premam, as his dancing prowess has become more widely recognised now thanks to 'Monica'. The "mirror dance step" showcases the actor's knack for physical comedy even as he does not dance in the conventional sense.

Soubin's Coolie co-star Pooja Hegde has also praised his dance in the song. The actor, named Monica in the single, said that Soubin has a "very unique way of dancing" that is inimitable. Meanwhile, some claim that Malayalam cinema has not utilised Soubin's dancing skills well enough. While this perception may be true and he definitely deserves more appreciation for his dancing skills, here are three more notable occasions where the actor entertained us with his dance moves.

'Njan Jackson Allada' from Ambili

It is sheer ecstasy when Soubin's character in Johnpaul George's film Ambili (2019) grooves to Vinayak Sasikumar's lyrics and Anthony Daasan's vocals in the middle of the road. Much like in 'Monica', Soubin dances in a way that shows he absolutely enjoys it, and you cannot help but join him in all the fun. The moment gives a glimpse into Soubin's titular Ambili, a person with an intellectual disability, looking for some genuine human connection.

'Parudeesa' from Bheeshma Parvam

Soubin takes centre stage alongside Sreenath Bhasi in this peppy track from the 2022 Mammootty starrer. Like in 'Njan Jackson Allada', the actor does his own version of the famous moonwalk at the same time as his character drinks alcohol from a bottle. He brings his childlike enthusiasm and infectious energy to another memorable song. Interestingly, the track also features Vinayak Sasikumar's lyrics, alongside Sreenath Bhasi's own vocals.

'Chewing Gum' Promo from Ayalvaashi

While not as popular as the other entries in this list, the promo song for Soubin's 2023 film Ayalvaashi captures a lighter side of the actor. Soubin does the odd moves as he chews gum, and he even makes fun of his own "mirror step" from Premam in front of a group of background dancers. The others make fun of the actor as he pulls off the iconic move, but Soubin, being Soubin, enjoys his own company.
