Dhananjaya-starrer and produced under Daali Pictures banner, Mother Promise is now making its way to the digital space. The dark-comedy crime drama is locked to premiere on ZEE5 on October 2, coinciding with the Gandhi Jayanti weekend.
Billed as an offbeat blend of underworld crime, quirky humour, and filial sentiment, the film unfolds against the gritty backdrop of a fictional Bengaluru underbelly. The story tracks Rossi, an eccentric gambler down on his luck, whose reckless misadventures spark a chain of chaotic chases involving ruthless city dons, petty smugglers, and eccentric underworld figures. The conflict escalates when Rossi’s mother is inadvertently dragged into the crosshairs, forcing him into a high-stakes survival run to honour a solemn vow made to her.
Directed by actor-filmmaker Poornachandra Mysore, who also features in a prominent role, Mother Promise comes with an ensemble cast that includes senior actors Vinaya Prasad and Geetha, alongside Nagabhushana NS, Chi. Gurudatha, Mahadev Prasad, Naresh Dingri, and Srivatsa Shyam.
Speaking about taking the film to the digital audience, Dhananjaya shares, “Mother Promise brings together comedy, crime, mayhem, and familial sentiment in equal measure. While it is set in an underworld sphere, the core driving force remains the mother-son dynamic. Viewers who missed catching it in cinema halls can now watch this genre-bending ride comfortably at home with family on ZEE5.”
Announcing the acquisition, S Deepak, Chief Channel Officer (Zee Kannada and Zee Power) and Business Head of ZEE5 Kannada, added that the title enriches their Kannada catalogue with fresh, distinctive programming curated for the festive stream.
Director Poornachandra Mysore notes that balancing laugh-out-loud elements with emotional stakes was a thrilling creative task. “Merging crime and deadpan humour with the sanctity of a son's word was a delicate exercise. Collaborating with such a seasoned bunch of performers made the storytelling come alive, and we look forward to the wider reach that the digital space offers,” he states.
