,For years, every question about KGF 3 has brought a hint from the makers. The third chapter was teased at the end of KGF: Chapter 2 in 2022, and since then, fans have been waiting for clarity on when Rocky Bhai will return. Now, director Prashanth Neel has provided the most concrete update yet: the screenplay is ready.
Speaking in a recent interview, Neel confirmed that KGF 3 will definitely happen and explained that the team had already worked out the story when they hinted at the third chapter at the end of KGF: Chapter 2.
“KGF 3 will definitely happen. The screenplay is already ready. That is why we said at the end of KGF: Chapter 2 that KGF 3 would come. We have a few things to sort out, and Yash also needs to make time,” he said.
The statement will no doubt bring back excitement around the franchise, but it also changes the question surrounding the film. If the screenplay is ready, what is keeping KGF 3 from moving forward?
The answer, at least partly, lies in the schedules of its key players. Prashanth Neel is currently working on Dragon, starring Jr NTR. He is expected to take up Salaar 2 next, followed by projects with Ajith and Allu Arjun. Yash, meanwhile, has completed Toxic and Ramayana, with the latter's first part scheduled for release in November.
That makes KGF 3 a film that is still some distance away, despite the screenplay being in place.
There is also a larger expectation attached to the third chapter. KGF and KGF: Chapter 2 did more than turn Yash into a pan-India star. They established Rocky Bhai as one of Indian cinema's most recognisable characters and made the franchise a major success for Hombale Films.
Which is why KGF 3 cannot simply be brought back to keep fans cheering. A successful formula cannot be repeated just because it worked twice. With the screenplay ready, Hombale Films, Prashanth Neel and Yash now have to find the right time and, more importantly, the right reason to bring Rocky Bhai back.
Because KGF 3 cannot simply be about returning to a successful formula. The challenge for Hombale Films, Prashanth Neel and Yash is to find a story strong enough to make that return worth the wait.
