Baraguru Ramachandrappa’s 125th directorial Mahakavi to release on this date

A Sharadhaa

Mahakavi, directed by Baraguru Ramachandrappa and produced by Prabhu Yatnatti of Belagavi under PR Associates, is set to release across Karnataka on September 18.

The film draws from Pampa’s Adipurana and Vikramarjuna Vijaya, incorporating key episodes from both works. The Bharata-Bahubali episode from Adipurana and the portions involving Karna from Vikramarjuna Vijaya feature prominently in the narrative. Some of Pampa’s verses have also been adapted for the film.

A significant aspect of Mahakavi is its focus on Pampa’s views on society and equality. Pampa’s opposition to the caste system and his belief in the oneness of humanity find space in the film, including his well-known line, 'Manushya jati tanonde valam (All humans are one).' The film also looks at how Pampa retained his creative independence while being part of a royal court, and his contribution to the concept of the anti-hero.

The film features Kishore, Anusha Rai, Sundar Raj, Pramila Joshai, Kumar Govind, Sheela, Akanksh Baragur, Sundar Raj Arasu, Rajappa Dalavayi, Raghav and Vatsala Mohan, among others.

Suresh Arasu is the editor, Nagaraj Adavani is the cinematographer and Shamitha Malnad has composed the music. Tribhuvan has choreographed the film, while Hosmane Murthy is the art director.

Baraguru Ramachandrappa has written the screenplay, lyrics and dialogues apart from directing the film. Mahakavi also marks his 25th directorial, making it a notable film in his career.
