Well-known Kannada filmmaker Baraguru Ramachandrappa’s film Mahakavi has been selected for the Jharkhand International Film Festival, which will take place in the last week of October. Produced by Prabhu Yatnatti of Belagavi under the PR Associates banner, the film has already had a successful run in theatres and is now heading to a national festival platform.
The film looks closely at the life, values, and poetry of Pampa, celebrated as Kannada’s first poet (Adikavi). Instead of just looking back at the past, Mahakavi picks key moments from Pampa’s two major works—Adipurana and Vikramarjuna Vijaya—and shows how they matter today. Through these stories, Ramachandrappa builds a narrative that clearly speaks out against caste discrimination, highlights the horrors of war, and explores the ongoing fight for creative freedom.
Ramachandrappa wrote the script and dialogues alongside directing the project. Popular multilingual actor Kishore leads the cast, joined by Anusha Rai, Sundar Raj, Kumar Govind, Pramila Joshai, Akanksh Baragur, Arasu, Dalavayi, and Shantharaju. The team behind the camera includes senior editor Suresh Urs, cinematographer Nagaraj Advani, and music by Shamitha Malnad.
