Ulidavaru Kandanthe, regarded as one of Kannada cinema’s cult classics, completes 12 years since its release on March 28. The film marked Rakshit Shetty’s directorial debut and introduced his distinct storytelling voice to Indian cinema.
Marking the milestone, Rakshit shared the film’s poster and reflected on how there are always new reasons to revisit and remember the film, hinting at its lasting impact over the years.
Released in 2014, Ulidavaru Kandanthe stood out for its live sound design and layered, non-linear narrative. While it received mixed-to-negative reviews initially and struggled at the box office, the film gradually found its audience. Over time, it built a strong cult following, with viewers continuing to discover and celebrate it years after its release.
The film’s journey from an underappreciated release to a widely discussed cult favourite remains one of the more unique arcs in Kannada cinema.
Rakshit Shetty had earlier announced Richard Anthony, a spin-off to Ulidavaru Kandanthe. After years of anticipation, the actor-filmmaker recently confirmed that work on the project has begun, keeping the film firmly on the radar of fans.
