Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa's attempt to modify an earlier Supreme Court order has been rejected at the very first stage, with the Registrar refusing to entertain his application and holding that it was not maintainable. Since the plea was rejected by the Registry, it was not placed before a judicial bench for hearing.

The actor had moved the Supreme Court seeking a modification of its earlier order that prevented him from filing a fresh bail application for one year. Rather than asking for immediate bail, Darshan sought permission to approach the court in exceptional situations, including medical emergencies or humanitarian grounds.

In his application, Darshan argued that the one-year restriction could leave him without legal recourse if the trial was delayed. He also referred to his mother's deteriorating health and submitted that continued incarceration without an opportunity to seek bail could affect his right to personal liberty and a speedy trial under Article 21 of the Constitution.

The plea further stated that his prolonged custody had affected his livelihood, professional commitments and family responsibilities. It urged the court to allow limited liberty to seek bail if unforeseen circumstances arose during the period covered by the earlier order.

However, the Registrar's office declined to register the application, ruling that the modification plea was not maintainable. As a result, the matter did not reach a Supreme Court bench for consideration.

Darshan continues to remain in judicial custody in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. With the modification application rejected at the Registry stage, the earlier Supreme Court direction restricting him from filing a fresh bail plea remains unchanged for now. The actor's legal team may now have to explore other remedies if they wish to challenge the Registrar's decision or seek relief through a different legal route.
