The road to Salaar 2 has entered a new phase as director Prashanth Neel has formally begun pre-production on the sequel to Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, using the break in Dragon's schedule to advance one of the biggest projects in his lineup. As Jr NTR recovers from a shoulder injury, Prashanth Neel has reunited with Hombale Films founder Vijay Kiragandur to lay the groundwork for the next chapter of the Salaar franchise.

A recent meeting between Prashanth Neel and Vijay Kiragandur focused on locking the screenplay, planning the production schedule and outlining the film's next stage. The sequel, tentatively titled Salaar 2: Shouryaanga Parvam, has now entered active pre-production, with the team concentrating on script development before principal photography begins.

The update comes after months of speculation over the film's future. Earlier this year, reports claiming the sequel had been shelved gained traction before Hombale Films dismissed them by releasing a behind-the-scenes image from Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire. Prashanth Neel had also maintained that the sequel remained very much on track and would follow his commitments to Dragon. With the NTR-starrer's schedule now pushed back as the actor recuperates, the filmmaker has turned his full attention to preparing Salaar 2.

For Vijay Kiragandur and Hombale Films, the sequel is envisioned as a far bigger undertaking than its predecessor. The producer has previously indicated that the film will expand the scale of Khansaar, taking audiences deeper into its political landscape while raising the stakes of the conflict introduced in the first instalment.

Salaar also traces its origins to Prashanth Neel's 2014 Kannada film Ugramm, starring Sriimurali. While the Prabhas-starrer was developed as a larger standalone franchise, it borrowed several of the core ideas from Neel's directorial debut. The sequel is expected to further expand that narrative.

Released in December 2023, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire concluded with a revelation that changed the course of the story. Deva, played by Prabhas, was revealed to be the rightful heir to the Shouryaanga clan, placing him at the centre of Khansaar's battle for power. The twist also altered his bond with Varadha Raja Mannar, portrayed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, setting the stage for a confrontation between two men whose loyalty to each other is tested by destiny.

The sequel is expected to continue from that point, exploring Deva's claim to the throne and the growing fractures within Khansaar. While the makers have remained guarded about the plot, the subtitle Shouryaanga Parvam hints that the story will delve deeper into the history of the Shouryaanga lineage and its role in deciding the kingdom's future.

Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran are expected to reprise their lead roles, with Shruti Haasan, Sriya Reddy, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand, Pramod Shetty and Garuda Ram also likely to return.

For now, Dragon awaits Jr NTR's return to the sets. In the meantime, Prashanth Neel has gone back to the world he left on a cliffhanger nearly three years ago. With the screenplay taking shape and production plans being locked, the road to Salaar 2 has finally begun in earnest.
