Twenty years ago, on April 21, a soft-spoken television anchor with a unique style, charming smile entered Kannada cinema as a leading man with Chellata. Few could have guessed that Ganesh would become one of Sandalwood’s most loved romantic heroes, earning the lasting title of “Golden Star”.

Directed by MD Sridhar, Chellata marked his debut as a hero. However, it was the same year’s blockbuster hit, Mungaru Male, that changed his career. The film’s unprecedented theater run and audience return visits became legends in the industry, firmly establishing Ganesh as the face of modern Kannada romance.

In the past two decades, Ganesh has starred in over 40 films. He has carved out a niche with his relatable presence and emotional performances. From the friendly interactions in Gaalipata to the heartfelt storytelling in Cheluvina Chittara and the broad appeal of Krishna, his filmography shows a steady connection with audiences. Even in recent years, with films like Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi, he continues to explore the romantic roles that first made him famous while adding maturity to every character, he is part of.

As he marks 20 years as a leading man, Ganesh shows no signs of slowing down. His upcoming film, Brinda Vihaari, directed by Srinivas Raju, is getting ready to hit theatres soon, along with Yours Sincerely Raam, directed by Vikhyath, gearing up for release. This apart, the actor is set to work with Ramenahalli Jagannath on a new project that plans to start filming in May.
