The upcoming film, Thiklu Rama has found itself at the center of an unexpected controversy, with its title drawing objections from certain groups who claim it could hurt religious sentiments. The issue surfaced after a complaint was reportedly filed at a police station in Bengaluru, arguing that the use of the name “Rama” in a casual or stylised context may be inappropriate, given its strong association with the revered deity in Hindu tradition.
Directed by Manju Kavi, the film is already well into production, with nearly 40 percent of the shoot completed. The project features a cast that includes Rajveer, Suchendra Prasad and Chaitra Ram, and is positioned as a socially conscious drama with an environmental core. According to the makers, the narrative revolves around an ordinary man known as Thiklu Rama, whose life is shaped by his commitment to ecological causes and community welfare.
Responding to the controversy, the film’s team has struck a conciliatory tone. They have clarified that the intention behind the title is neither irreverent nor provocative, and that the story itself carries a positive and meaningful message. At the same time, the producers have indicated a willingness to consider changes if the title is found to be genuinely hurtful. The possibility of a revised title is now being discussed, with an official announcement expected after internal consultations.
While such title-related disputes are not new to Indian cinema, they continue to highlight the delicate balance filmmakers must maintain between creative expression and cultural sensitivity. For Thiklu Rama, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether the controversy remains a minor hiccup or evolves into a larger roadblock ahead of its release.
