Suresh Mallaiah's road to becoming an editor for Kantara: Chapter 1 is filled with life lessons, but the editor's start with cinema was unique. Kantara: Chapter 1 is directed by Rishab Shetty and was released on October 2.
In an exclusive conversation with CE, the editor shared an anecdote about the times he met actor Puneeth Rajkumar after the release of Appu. The actor said, "First time, when he saw me selling popcorn, he told me there is space for youngsters and I should look out. The second time, he insisted I learn something innovative. That’s when I stopped selling popcorn."
He joined film studios as an office boy, in 2006, where he would catch glimpses of the editors at work. The actor said, "I would often just stand and watch, fascinated by how they shaped stories. That’s how my real training began."
Kantara: Chapter 1 is the highest grossing Kannada film grossing over Rs 191 crores in Karnataka. The film has also grossed Rs 655 crores worldwide.
