Actor-director Rishab Shetty's Kantara: Chapter 1 opened to lavish reception and made it past the ₹100-crore mark in just two days, and the film is heading towards 150 crore. The dynamics of direction came from Rishab Shetty, while Vijay Kiragandur's Hombale Films came forward to produce this masterpiece that opened on October 2 during the Dasara festival and has since been running to full-house crowds in Karnataka and other states.
With ₹62 crore collected on the opening day, the movie set the tone for a strong run. Day two witnessed a collection of ₹43.65 crore, pushing the cumulative total to ₹105.5 crore. Hence, Kantara: Chapter 1 has become one of the fastest Kannada films to enter the ₹100-crore club, released in multiple languages.
Earlier this year, Raj B Shetty's production Su From So also crossed this milestone, now being joined by Kantara: Chapter 1.
The success of the movie, however, is not just within Karnataka. Released in multiple languages, the film's collection stood at ₹20 crores from the Kannada version, ₹13 crores from Telugu, ₹18.5 crores from Hindi, ₹5.5 crores from Tamil, and ₹5.25 crores from Malayalam.
This spread shows how the narrative has found itself embraced by the viewers outside its novel territory. Rishab Shetty starred in it, accompanied by Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, among others. The timing of its release, right during Dasara, actually went in its favour, since large numbers meant to be audiences for the big screen viewing.
Being of interest, Kantara: Chapter 1 ranks at No 15 in the top 15 money-making South Indian movies and moves to become the second-biggest Kannada grosser in the domestic box office. This development in Kannada cinema, following the great success of films like KGF: Chapter 2 and Su From So proves further that stories grounded in their immediate environment are capable of resonating with audiences across the country. Industry analysts now talk about the film moving towards ₹300 crore if things go this way.
