Su From So, which is reaching every nook and cranny of Karnataka and beyond, recently had a special viewer — Bollywood star Ajay Devgn. The Kannada film, produced by Raj B Shetty under Lighter Buddha Films, left the actor so impressed that he called over Raj, writer and director JP Thuminad, and the team for a conversation about its craft, and also discussed its success.
Speaking to us, Raj B Shetty revealed that Ajay watched the film in its original language. “Any filmmaker likes it that way,” Raj said. “Ajay Devgn saw it in Kannada with subtitles and praised both the craft and the emotional depth of the work.”
Raj B Shetty said that Ajay sharing his experience, said that it is such a great, intense, and simple film. "The way it’s made, the way it flows… it’s well-crafted cinema.”
Raj also spoke with Ajay Devgn about the film’s box-office journey — from 70 screens on Day 1 to over 500 in Karnataka alone. “When a movie is made well, this is bound to happen. Word of mouth does the rest. That’s why you’re still seeing audiences come in even today. It’s not surprising — it’s a great film,” Ajay Devgn remarked.
For Ajay Devgn, the film transcends language barriers. “Once you watch the film, you are just an audience. It doesn’t matter where you come from — if you love cinema, it connects,” he told Raj.
The climax, in particular, struck a chord with Ajay Devgn. “Apart from the humour, the emotion in the climax… I’m glad I saw it. It stays with you,” he shared.
Raj B Shetty, who is also the film’s creative force, was touched by the feedback. “It’s always special when someone like Ajay Devgn connects with the film. His words reaffirm why we push for better writing and honest storytelling,” Raj said.
Apparently, Ajay Devgn also asked Raj B Shetty about his future projects. “He told me that if I have something interesting, we could connect and work together,” Raj revealed.
Raj B Shetty noted that Su From So’s appeal extends far beyond Karnataka. “Apart from Bollywood, a lot of people from other languages — including big production houses — have watched it.”
The film directed by JP Thuminad, Su From So is nearing its third week in theatres, grossing over ₹87 crore wordwide. With music by Sumedh K, cinematography by S Chandrasekaran, and editing by Nithin Shetty, the film features fine performances from Prakash Thuminad, Shaneel Gautham, Sandhya Arakere, and others — proving once again that authentic storytelling speaks every language.
