Following the huge success of Kantara, Rishab Shetty and Hombale Films are dedicated to making the prequel even bigger and better. Accordingly, Kantara Chapter 1, currently in production and about halfway through, is said to have entered its third shooting schedule, which will involve a busy 60-day continuous shoot. Meanwhile, the production house is in talks with top stunt choreographers and is said to have approached five of the best, including Todor Lazarov, known for his work on the blockbuster RRR.
Meanwhile, Rishab on his end has undergone extensive training in horse riding and Kalaripayattu, an ancient Indian martial art. He has been honing his skills for a year, mastering Kalaripayattu as part of his character.
This training will be crucial as the major action sequences in the film will incorporate the ancient martial art, while the schedule will have the team shooting songs and scenes featuring a unique style.
Kantara Chapter 1 will get into the origins of Panjurli Daiva and Guliga, the revered deities from the original film. This storyline has sparked great curiosity, as fans are eager to uncover the rich mythological and historical elements that the film aims to explore.
Produced by Vijay Kiragandur, the makers of Kantara Chapter 1 plan to set new standards in Indian filmmaking. Alongside Rishab Shetty, who is directing as well as playing the lead, a few actors from the original Kantara will return, although the full cast for Kantara Chapter 1 has yet to be officially announced. The composer Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematographer Aravind Kashyap, who both worked on the first film, are also part of the team for the prequel.
Production of Kantara Chapter 1 is in full swing, with a target release date set for mid-2025. Additionally, Rishab Shetty is set to play the role of Hanuman in Prashanth Varma's next film, titled Jai Hanuman. He plans to begin shooting for this project only after he completes his commitments for Kantara Chapter 1.
