Upendra's comeback directorial UI, which hit theatres on December 20, has sparked a wide range of reactions from audiences. Despite the mixed responses, the film has already surpassed 500,000 ticket sales online and achieved the highest opening day collections for a Kannada film in 2024. Produced by G Manoharan’s Lahari Films and KP Sreekantha’s Venus Entertainers, it continues to perform strongly at the box office.

Led by Upendra, UI has been termed a 'Focus Blockbuster' in Kannada cinema, also receiving praise from Telugu-speaking viewers. Upendra recently visited Vijayawada to personally thank the audience for their unwavering love and support.

The release was handled by KVN Productions in Karnataka, while Geetha Film Distributors took charge of the Telugu release across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Upendra expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Telugu audience, saying, “I don’t often direct films, but the incredible love and support you’ve shown for my work over the years has been overwhelming. UI is a reflection of that admiration. The real star of this film is the audience. I made it with trust in you, and your support has been beyond amazing.”

Upendra also shared how the audience’s energy and enthusiasm are encouraging him to take up direction more frequently in the future. Co-producer Naveen Manoharan expressed his joy, stating, “Upendra has given us a remarkable opportunity to bring his vision to life. With increasing collections and packed theaters, we are incredibly grateful.”

UI stars Upendra in the lead, alongside Reeshma Nanaiah as the female lead along with Nidhi Subbaiah, and Murali Sharma, Ravi Shankar and Sadhu Kokila in key roles. The film has music composed by Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematography by HC Venu.
