A continued blot over the stupendous success of Rishab Shetty's Kantara has been the plagiarism row surrounding the Varaha Roopam number in the film. Following multiple arguments in the court, the division bench of the Supreme Court comprising of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Padiwala had said in the order that "Petitioner shall present before the investigating officer on February 12 and 13. In case he is arrested, he shall be released on bail forthwith subject to conditions on trial court."

Actor-director Rishab Shetty and producer Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films were present before Kozhikode Deputy Commissioner of Police, KE Baiju, to record their statements.

The case was lodged by the Kerala-based music band Thaikudam Bridge that the Varaha Roopam song in Kantara was plagiarised from their song 'Navarasam.'

The music director of the movie, Ajaneesh Loknath rejected the allegations stating that the similarities were due to the same raaga used in both songs.

However, Thaikkudam Bridge contested that blatant infringement of copyright law had taken place.
