Teaser for Malaysian Tamil short film selected for Cannes 2025 released

Bleat! is a Malaysian film in the Tamil language, which is selected to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival at the Semaine De La Critique (Critics Week) section. Now, a teaser for the short film has been released online by its makers.

The short film follows the story of a Malaysian Tamil couple who is stuck in a dilemma as the goat which was raised for ceremonial slaughter is found to be pregnant.

Bleat!, alternatively titled Kattu!, is directed by Ananth Subramaniam, who is a filmmaker from Malaysia and previously directed shorts like The House of Brick and Stone, which can be viewed on YouTube, and Liar Land, which won the Special Mention Prize at the Locarno Film Festival. He is working on his debut feature film titled The Passport.

In Tamil, Veyil (2007) is one of the few films to be screened at Cannes. From Malaysia, films like Karaoke (2009), The Tiger Factory (2010), and Tiger Stripes (2023).
