Netflix announces horror miniseries with Pablo Larrain set to direct

Pablo Larrain, the director of films like Jackie, Spencer, and Maria, is joining hands with Netflix for a four part horror series, My Sad Dead. The series is based on Argentine author Mariana Enriquez short story of the same name.

According to Variety, the story of the miniseries is about the reunion of a 60-year-old doctor, Ema, and her niece Julie, both of whom can talk to the dead. Ema has spent her life avoiding her abilities, but Julie, a disturbed woman, can communicate with the dead in a more intense and sexual manner. As the reunion sets off a disastrous chain of events, Ema has to confront her past and the skeletons she has buried.

The Spanish-language series features Mercedes Moran, Dolores Fonzi, Alejandra Flechner, Carlos Portaluppi, German de Silva, Luz Jiminez, and Carolina Sanchez Alvarez.

Larrain has directed films based on real life figures like Neruda (2016), which is based on Pablo Neruda's life; Jackie (2016), which is based on Jackie Kennedy's life; Spencer (2021), which is based on Princess Diana's life; El Conde (2023), which featured Argentine dictator Augusto Pinochet and Maria (2024), which is based on opera singer Maria Callas's life.
