Gautham Vasudev Menon, while recalling a story about working with Ilaiyaraaja on Neethane En Ponvasantham, mentioned that the musicians working with the composer, became curious about his body of work.

Speaking about the veteran composer, Gautham said, "We took him to London, and we produced all the songs in London. The 18 piece orchestra we hired had no idea who this composer was. They just had sheets in front of them and they were very mechanical."

He added, "Once the music was recorded, and it was played back, they gave him a standing ovation. Then they tried to find out, who this person is, and what has he done. Then they look him up, then we tell them about him, and then there is awe."

Neethane En Ponvasantham was released in 2012 and starred Jiiva and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead. A Telugu version of the film titled, Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu, starring Nani and Samantha, was shot simulataneously and released.
