Film producer TG Vishwa Prasad is coming up with a new film based on the contemporary history of Bengal, titled Maa Kaali. The makers released the first look of their film on Monday.

The film stars Raima Sen in the lead role. Raima’s last film appearance was in Vivek Agnihotri directorial The Vaccine War, which was released in September last year. The film also stars Abhishek Singh in a prominent role.

Maa Kaali promises to be a political drama, with an element of commentary on religious dogma. Through their use of title font design, the makers also hint at touching upon the subject of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, also known as, CAA.

Maa Kaali is written and directed by Vijay Yelakanti, who made his directorial debut with the 2018 film W/O Ram. Vijay was also an assistant to filmmaker SS Rajamouli on his 2012 film Eega.
