Mamoru Hosoda's next animation film gets a title, producer

According to reports, the film tells the tale of a courageous princess that is timeless and universal

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda's next film is titled Scarlet, and Sony Pictures is set to produce it alongside Studio CHIZU and Nippon TV. Yuichiro Saito will serve as the producer on behalf of Studio CHIZU, alongside Toshimi Tanio of Nippon TV and Nozomu Takahashi of Studio CHIZU.

According to reports, the film tells the tale of a courageous princess that goes beyond the limits of time and space. The makers are yet to reveal further details about the cast or characters.

Sony Pictures is also set to release the film in the US early next year, and it holds the rights to distribute it elsewhere except for Japan. Toho is set to release the film in Japan. Sony Pictures also released a first-look image of what seems like the titular character with a sword.

Hosoda is known for films such as MiraiBelle, and Wolf Children. He got a Best Animated Feature Oscar for Mirai in 2019.
