Zlatan Ibrahimovic cameos in new trailer for Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom

The makers of Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom have released the first official trailer for their film. The trailer features a cameo from AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who makes his acting debut with the film. He will reportedly portray a Roman centurion by the name of Caius Antivirus. The French live-action film is an adaptation of the classic comic book series of the same name. 

Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom is directed by Guillaume Canet. He plays Asterix in the film while Gilles Lellouche plays his friend and partner-in-crime Obelix. The actor/filmmaker is known for films like Little White Lies and Rock n’Roll. This is the fifth live-action adaptation of the popular comic book series, which was first published in 1959. Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard will be producing the film along with Black Swan fame Vincent Cassel, the actors are also part of the film’s cast.

This film will reportedly not be based on any of the published stories from the Asterix and Obelix comic book series. The cast list of the film also includes Ramzy Bedia, Leanna Chea, Julie Chen, Linh-Dan Pham, Manu Payet, Pierre Richard, and José Garcia. With the streaming rights for the film reported to have been bagged by Netflix, the film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on 1 February 2023.
