The Kerala Story teaser out

CE Features

We had earlier reported about director Vipul Amrutlal Shah producing The Kerala Story, which narrates the story of missing girls from Kerala in the last few years. The film, written and directed by Sudipto Sen, intends to tell a heartbreaking tale of the forced religious conversion of women. The makers released its teaser on Thursday.

According to the makers, the film tells the story of a human tragedy as it unearths the events behind 32,000 women going missing in Kerala. The teaser features actress Adah Sharma in her character of a converted Muslim woman Fatima Ba. The character narrates her ordeal of how she once wanted to serve humanity by becoming a nurse but was abducted from her home and manipulated by religious vanguards and turned into an ISIS terrorist. She eventually lands in Afghanistan jail.

Earlier, while announcing the project, producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah had said, "This story is a human tragedy, one that will shake you to the core. When Sudipto came and narrated it to me along with his research of over 3-4 years, I was in tears in the first meeting itself. That was the very day I decided to make this film. I am glad that we are now progressing with the film, and we hope to make a very real, unbiased, and true narrative of events."

The Kerala Story will be released in theatres in 2023.
