Tryst With Destiny trailer out: India pining

CE Features

SonyLIV has launched the trailer of Tryst With Destiny, an anthology film directed by Prashant Nair and starring Ashish Vidyarthi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Lillete Dubey and others.

The film draws its title from Jawaharlal Nehru's 1947 speech. It explores deep-seated issues of caste, colour, greed and mobility in contemporary India, 75 years after it won independence from foreign rule.

Tryst With Destiny won Best Screenplay In An International Narrative at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. It is produced by Drishyam Films and the French banner Backup Media.

In a previous interview, Prashant told us he was inspired by the political turmoil in the country in 2018 to make this film. "It looked like some of our founding notions like secularism and freedom of speech were in danger," the director told Cinema Express. "(The Nehru speech) gave me the idea of cataloguing the journey of our independence."

Tryst With Destiny releases on SonyLIV on November 5.
