Sohum Shah is gearing up for the December 03 release of Tumbbad 2, a follow-up to his 2018 horror film. Joining the actor in the upcoming film are actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Alia Bhatt. The actor and the horror film's fans are also excited about the upcoming film. On Wednesday, one of them shared a story on Instagram saying he has purchased 100 Hastar masks ahead of Halloween in tribute to the franchise. Touched by the fan's gesture, Sohum Shah shared the story on his handle and wrote in response, "Bhaiii .. Jitna pyaar tumhe hastar se hai..utna mujhe tum logon se!"

For the unversed, the term 'Hastar' refers to a cursed deity from the 2018 film. Hastar lives in the subterranean womb of the Goddess of Prosperity, where Sohum's character goes in search of a mysterious treasure along with his son Pandurang (Mohammad Samad). Tumbbad was not a commercial hit at the time of its release. Reportedly, the film failed to earn more than its 15 crore budget. However, it garnered critical acclaim at the time itself and went on to become a cult favourite.

With Tumbbad 2, the expectation is that the film build on the promise of the first part. It is expected to continue the folk-horror legacy of the deity and explore the repercussions of worshipping the forces that are not supposed to be venerated thus. Sohum Shah is also producing the film through his eponymous banner along with Dr Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios. The film also has Pen Marudhar as a distributor.
