Earlier today, we had reported about Imran Khan being sent a notice by Mumbai Police to leave India by October 28, alleging the actor of violating his rights as an OCI citizen. Now, reports are coming in that Imran Khan is planning to challenge the notice.
According to a Bar & Bench report, Imran will approach the Bombay High Court to file his plea against the notice that directed him to leave the country within 2 weeks. Once the plea is filed, it will reportedly be moved for an urgent hearing and is likely to be heard by the division bench of Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna. According to the same report, Imran Khan is being represented by advocates Zulfiquar Memon, Parvez Memon and Chirag Naik from MZM Legal LLP.
The notice was issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), following Imran Khan’s participation in the anti-CEC protests that were being held on October 10 in Mumbai at August Kranti Maidan, demanding resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gynesh Kumar. Shortly after arriving there, Imran was detained by Mumbai Police, among 400 others.
The notice was sent to Imran after an initiative by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya who lodged a complaint at the Gamdevi police station, allaeging that the actor had breached the Foreigners Act by participating in the protests.
It is to be noted being an OCI card holder, Imran is not conferred upon political privileges like voting, contesting elections or partaking in political activities, including protests. Under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, the Central government has the authority to direct a foreigner to “not remain in India or in any specified area therein".
