We had previously reported about Alia Bhatt joining the cast of the much-anticipated Tumbbad sequel, titled Tumbbad 2, being produced by Sohum Shah. On Monday, October 12, which marked the completion of 8 years of Tumbbad’s release, Alia Bhatt shared an Instagram story making a callback to the 2018 film.

Posting a story on her Instagram page, where she can be seen wearing the uncanny, custom-crafted Tumbbad eye mask, Alia playfully teased her association with the Tumbbad universe, sending the internet into a frenzy over her collaboration with Sohum Shah for the sequel. “Happy 8 years to the entire Tumbbad team,” she captioned her post.

Tumbbad (2018), which was directed by Rahi Anil Barve, emerged as a film with a massive cult following in the years following its theatrical release, with its reputation only growing with time. By drawing massive footfalls during its re-release nearly two years ago in 2024, the film only confirmed its popularity.

Directed by Adesh Prasad, who was also the co-director for Tumbbad, Tumbbad 2 also stars Sohum and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, marking his first collaboration with Alia Bhatt. With its ominous tagline like ‘Pralay Aayega,’ the sequel is expected to take the story forward with an ambitious vision and push boundaries further for a visual spectacle. Produced by Sohum Shah Films in association with Pen Studios, headed by Dr Jayantilal Gada, with distribution by Pen Marudhar, the filmis slated to hit theatres on December 3, 2027. 

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt has a major release coming up with Love & War, that will arrive in January next year. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial features Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal as the male leads.
