Director SS Rajamouli is known for bringing attention to Indian cinema from international audiences thanks to his epic films with visual grandeur such as Baahubali and RRR. Now, the filmmaker has thrown his weight behind another such epic period film, this time an adaptation of Valmiki's Ramayana by Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari. Speaking about Ramayana, Rajamouli shared, "The sheer scale of the film and the visuals on the big screen are spectacular to watch."
The filmmaker praised Ranbir Kapoor's performance in the titular role of Lord Ram, calling it "serene yet magnificent," particularly "from the Vanavasam" portion onwards. "Yash brings a menacing presence as Ravana, while Sai Pallavi is graceful as Sita," the director added. Rajamouli opined that he "loved every bit of" the film, including its "pre-climax and climax." He ended his Ramayana review by congratulating the film's producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari and "the entire team on bringing such an ambitious vision so beautifully to the screen."
Besides Hindi, Ramayana is running in theatres also with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The makers have used AI to correct lip-sync issues with the dubbed versions of the film, and the audience has responded positively so far to this technical adjustment.
Besides Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, the film stars Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chadha as Manthara, and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, among others.
Shridhar Raghavan has adapted Valmiki's epic for the screen alongside director Nitesh himself. On the technical front, it has music by Academy Award-winning composers AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, who make their first collaboration for the film.
