A recent episode of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s podcast What Women Want had an interesting guest. Actor Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput graced the show and there was excitement about Kareena and Mira sitting together for a conversation. Kareena and Shahid were in a much talked-about relationship in the early 2000s before they broke up and went on to marry Saif Ali Khan and Mira, respectively.
At the beginning of the podcast, Kareena, however, warned fans that she would not let her history with Shahid play a big role in the interview. “Everyone’s very excited that you and me are sitting on this couch, but my couch has nothing controversial. We will only talk about what women want,” she said.
Rather, the two women spoke about parenting, relationships, and family life. During the conversation, Kareena asked Mira how she divides parenting duties with Shahid, to which Mira replied that while he looks after their children’s sports and diet, she takes care of homework, birthday parties and other aspects of their upbringing.
“If either of us is travelling, of course, the other one has to take care of everything,” Mira added.
Kareena then asked, “Why do all the fun things end up with fathers?”
Agreeing with the actor, Mira said she also enjoys having fun with their children, particularly when Shahid is away.
“We make funny reels, which is obviously just for us,” she said.
Mira and Shahid, who married in 2015, have two children, Misha and Zain. Speaking about the values she hopes to instil in them, Mira said she does not follow different approaches while raising her son and daughter.
Recalling an incident when the siblings were involved in a scuffle, she said she had told her son, “Zain, you can’t do that. She is a girl”. He replied, “But I am a boy. She can't do that to me.”
The exchange made her reconsider how she approached the issue. “We are raising them equally, and I actually feel that when our kids become adults, I hope that there will be no gender stereotypes beyond a point,” she shared with Kareena.
Mira also spoke about the close bond between Misha and Zain, recalling how her son missed his sister when she went to summer camp.
“I haven’t done anything drastically different. I am very fortunate to have two good kids like that,” she concluded.
