Cockroach Janta Party has been the latest point of discussion on the internet, including even among those from the entertainment industry. For the unversed, the term refers to a political movement that is founded by Abhijeet Dipke and that began as a way of addressing corruption and lack of jobs. The term is named after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant's alleged comments where he described unemployed youth as 'cockroaches,' supposedly for their tendency to express political dissent on social media.
The movement gained widespread support soon after its launch. However, recently, the viral political movement's founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that its social media presence has been made inaccessible by the government. The movement has grabbed the attention of netizens, including entertainment industry voices.
Take standup comic and actor Vir Das, for instance. If there is someone from the entertainment industry who has faced measures similar to the alleged crackdown on the party, it is the standup-actor.
Earlier this Saturday, the actor took to social media and weighed in on the political situation. "Whether the Cockroach Janta Party is a legitimate movement or not, is not the question. Time will tell. But the traction they received, the sentiment behind it, the rhetoric from the youth, all legitimate. And if all that wasn’t legit enough, the utterly dumb move of shutting down their accounts legitimised everything," Vir Das wrote.
An X user sarcastically replied to the actor's post about the party, comparing it to his standup acts. The user opined that the movement is similar to Vir Das' stand-up acts. "It is neither interesting, nor funny but getting traction for God knows what," the user wrote.
Hitting back at the user, Vir Das added, "No matter where I go, there are Wi-Fi networks I can’t join and other people do. And that’s okay. I’m not baffled by it, not upset by it, I don’t bother god with that problem. You seem confused, hope you find a network you can join soon."
