Bhumi Pednekar, who was last seen in the Prime Video series Daldal, made her OTT debut last with The Royals, for which she received plenty of criticism. Now, reports are coming in that while the makers have begun shooting season 2 of The Royals, the Daldal actor will not be a part of it.
According to a Mid-day report, the sources said, “When the show came out, what resonated [with the audience] was the family, and the world of The Royals - which feels different. We left season one at an unresolved romance. There was no decision to carry it forward. There was no fight with Bhumi. The makers are simply letting the story lead forward organically in the second season." Accordingly, the season 2 will reportedly now continue in the same universe but without Bhumi’s character.
The Netflix series starred Ishaan Khatter as the male lead, and also marked the on-screen return for yesteryear icon Zeenat Aman. Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, The Royals 1 also featured Sakshi Tanwar, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Lisa Mishra, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, and Chunky Panday in the ensemble cast.
In our review for The Royals S1, we noted, “It isn’t difficult to ascertain that the makers are going for that trashy-comedy tone but to do that without smart writing is a plan gone wrong. Much of its show of emotions feels accidental, not adding much to our understanding of the characters. What we get as a result are eight episodes that are perennially confused about what to be, how to be and how much to be.”
Meanwhile, Bhumi Pednekkar’s upcoming projects include the much-awaited rom-com where she is paired with Imran Khan. She also has season 2 of Daldal in the pipeline.
