Bhooth Bangla producer addresses accusations about non-payment of dues

The Akshay Kumar-Priyadarshan film's producer clarified the accusations against it

On Thursday, we reported about the Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar film Bhooth Bangla's producer Balaji Motion Pictures being accused of failing to make payment of dues worth 48 lakh to vendors who collaborated with the maker on the film. According to Mid-Day, one of these vendors alleged that they have not yet received 30 lakh from the producer, whereas the other claimed a non-payment of 18 lakh.

Earlier this Friday, Balaji Motion Pictures has put out a statement addressing the allegations. The statement read, "With reference to various recent media reports and social media posts regarding certain allegations about unpaid dues by Balaji Telefilms Limited for the film Bhooth Bangla, this is to clarify that the Company has fulfilled all its contractual payment obligations for the film and there are no unpaid contractual dues nor is anything further due and payable to any vendors engaged by the company for this film for any services rendered by them." The statement further added, "Balaji Telefilms Limited as a leading media organization holds all its partners, vendors and creative teams in high respect and duty fulfills all its contractual obligations and maintains high standards of corporate governance."

Bhooth Bangla opened in theatres in April-mid to mostly negative reviews from critics and mixed feedback from audiences. Regardless of the reception, the film has minted 232.80 crore from theatres worldwide, as of May 04, Monday, according to data from the producer.

The film brought Akshay and Priyadarshan back together after 2010's Khatta Meetha, a remake of the filmmaker's own Malayalam film Vellanakalude Nadu (1988). It also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Jisshu Sengupta, Mithila Palkar, Tabu and Manoj Joshi. Akshay and Priyadarshan are set to reunite for a few more films, including Hera Pheri 3, Bhoot Police 2, and Haiwaan.
