Earlier this week, we had reported about The Last Tenant, the 25 year old unreleased film featuring Vidya Balan and the late actor Irrfan, that was released by the film’s director Saarthak Dasgupta on YouTube. On Thursday, Vidya Balan penned a long, poignant note about the film, recalling the working experience with Irrfan among other things.

Taking to her Instagram page, Vidya wrote, “Watched The Last Tenant for the first time last night, since I shot for it 25 years ago. I shot for it and then, for some reason, it didn’t see the light of day. This happened at a time when nothing I touched seemed to materialise.” Vidya added that she deliberately wanted to forget about it, considering that unfortunate phase in her career where many of her films were shelved in a period of three years, around the time The Last Tenant was being shot. “I diligently shoved it under the carpet… until last week, when I received a text from director Saarthak informing me of its release.”

Expressing her sincere admiration of Irrfan’s acting prowess, Vidya wrote, “I thought he was the most natural actor then, and I felt the same way last night… never a false note or tone.” The Kahaani actor also expressed regrets about never getting to work with Irrfan again, adding, “Since Irrfan’s passing, I have rued the fact that a couple of films that would’ve had us opposite each other didn’t materialize, for some reason or the other. But now I at least have The Last Tenant!! It took 25 years for our stars to align, but they did after all.”

Saarthak released the film on his YouTube channel on April 29, which marked the 6th death anniversary of Irrfan.
