Bobby Deol will soon be seen in an intense role in Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film Bandar but did you know that the actor was initially hesitant to say yes to the film? However, it was only after the actor’s father, the late Dharmendra, encouraged him that Bobby went ahead with the role.

"Bobby was initially hesitant about whether he would be able to pull off the Bandar role,” a source close to the film shared. “His family was also surprised, given it was quite a dark role for him. But it was the biggest star of his family, his father Dharmendra, who encouraged Bobby to give his nod. The veteran actor also recalled how he also encountered raised eyebrows when he showed interest in offbeat films back in the 1960s, during his rise as a superstar."

“Dharam ji told him actors can’t be shy. He said, ‘Even I have done non-mainstream roles in Satyakam, Anupama, and Dillagi. Go take a chance,'” added the source.

After making a comeback with the Prakash Jha series Aashram (2020), Bobby’s career has only been rising. The actor gave commendable performances in Love Hostel (2022), Animal (2023) and The Ba***ds of Bollywood (2025).

Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, also stars Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, Sapna Pabbi, Raj B Shetty, Sukant Goel, Aamir Aziz, among others. The film is scheduled to release on June 5.
