This week saw the release of multiple films across languages, including the Dhanush starrer Kara, the Mammootty-Mohanlal film Patriot, and Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan's film Ek Din. Directed by Sunil Pandey, it marks the third film in the career of actor Junaid Khan, son of superstar Aamir Khan. Junaid made his debut with the 2024 period film Maharaj and also starred in last year's Loveyapa, the official remake of the Pradeep Ranganathan starrer Love Today.
Critics have shared mixed reviews for Ek Din, reserving special praise for Sai Pallavi's performance. Recently, Aamir attended a pre-release screening and had an emotional response to the film.
It is worth noting that Ek Din marks Sai Pallavi's debut in Hindi cinema. The film is yet to make a big impact at the box office, though. According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, it earned 1.37 crore from theatres in India on release day.
The film follows Dinesh (Junaid) who finds it difficult to muster up courage and share his true feelings for Meera (Sai Pallavi). Dinesh eventually gets an opportunity to do so during a Japan trip. There, he wishes to be with Meera albeit for a single day, and it becomes a reality.
Ek Din is the official remake of the Thai film One Day (2016). In our Ek Din movie review, Kartik Bhardwaj wrote, "I would have preferred a simple story of an under-confident boy who takes charge and brightens the day of a devastated girl, discovering love and himself in the mix. What we get is a protagonist who is a meek-geek, spewing up facts like he is ChatGPT but never really standing up for anything."
