Dhurandhar franchise, the Ranveer Singh starrer spy-actioner has taken the box office by storm. At the same time, the film has also received considerable criticism from many for being propagandic in nature. In a recent interview, Rakesh Bedi, who plays the role of Jameel Jamali in the films, spoke about how he doesn’t like to label the film in any political terms.

Interacting with NDTV, the veteran actor said, “I don’t believe in politics. I think it’s the cinema. Everybody has the right to like or dislike a film. But I don’t think it’s right to put a film into some kind of a category, that it’s pro-establishment or anti-establishment.”

Pointing out a few other political films like Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency and PM Narendra Modi, which was headlined by Vivek Oberoi, Rakesh Bedi gave credit to Aditya Dhar for making a compelling film. He added, “Recently, there was a film on Indira Gandhi and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi, these films didn’t run for even two days. Dhurandhar’s writing, screenplay is great. People haven’t seen a film of this scale ever.”

Also talking about the significance of the film in his 45-year career, Rakesh said, “This is a mad frenzy which is going on. I’ve never seen something like this in my career at least. I was elated to find out that a film that I’m a part of is being talked about at this level. Aditya used to say one thing constantly while making the film, ‘We are going to raise the bar’. After I saw the film, I said, ‘You have not raised the bar, you have broken the bar’, because people are going to see the movie baar-baar (again and again).”

Rakesh Bedi rose to limelight with the 1981 comedy Chashme Buddoor. Over the years, he has appeared in many comic roles. However, Dhurandhar is a rare film where the actor was seen in a role with negative shades.
