Recently, we reported about Roshan Mathew receiving a Best Actor nomination at Critics’ Choice Awards, organised by Film Critics Guild in partnership with WPP Motion Entertainment, for his performance in the series Kankhajura. The actor recently talked about the nomination and touched upon how streaming platforms empower artists such as him.
About the benefits of having a large number of streaming platforms, he said, "With more opportunities and projects, especially in the series space, there’s a lot more opening up for actors today. Long-format storytelling offers a unique advantage because it gives stories more room to breathe, allows characters to evolve more deeply, and gives actors greater space to explore their craft. We’ve seen so many performers flourish by taking on multiple, layered roles across formats."
The actor also drew a parallel between working for a web series and a film. "Having worked on OTT series like Khauf and Black and White, as well as theatrical films, I don’t see a major creative difference in the process. But with a series, there is the added comfort that it’s not just about the first weekend; there's time for the story to travel and reach its audience. That’s what makes OTT such a democratic space for both creators and viewers," he said.
The Critics’ Choice Awards recognises work in feature films, documentaries, short films, and web series. The awards are determined by a jury of distinguished movie critics from multiple languages.
Recently, speaking about his Critics’ Choice Awards nomination Roshan Mathew said, "For me, CCA comes with a kind of credibility that makes this nomination very special. Kankhajura is a project that I hold in high regard. I collaborated with some of the best people in the industry and we had a thoroughly inspiring time making the show. This is validation for the value I saw in that work."
