Like most actors hailing from film families, Janhvi Kapoor too has been the subject of online bullying and excessive negativity on social media in the past few years. In a recent interview, Janhvi Kapoor spoke about the issue, also expressing support for her brother Arjun Kapoor.

Speaking to Grazia, the Homebound actor said, “From what I understand about social media culture, is that everyone wants prominence, views and virality, so if they are making content about you, you’re just a scapegoat, they’re just using your name for clickbait, rage bait and whatever else it is to further their engagement. Once you understand that what they’re saying about you has nothing to do with you, then you start taking that less to your heart.”

Talking about how social driven is driven by narratives that everyone wants to hear or which polarise the sentiment, Janhvi addressed how her brother Arjun Kapoor faces plenty of social media negativity, adding, “Of course, it hurts to feel misunderstood or when it turns into bullying and harassment, the way I’ve seen happen with my brother sometimes and there’s no excuse for that kind of behaviour. Negativity fuels negativity and you just have to remove yourself from it.”

Among other subjects, Janhvi also spoke about her connection to the Andhra-Telangana culture, and the new phase of her career where she hopes to show more agency in her choices. She added, “I have lot more clarity on the direction I want to go into. It’s how I feel about the material as a film and not about what side of me this is going to showcase. There is a lot more artistic integrity and I’m trying to be brave about those choices.”

Janhvi Kapoor’s upcoming projects include Peddi, Hai Jawani to Ishq Hona Hai, and Lag Jaa Gale. Peddi is scheduled for theatrical release on April 30.
