Pankaj Tripathi's brother injured in axe attack over land dispute in Bihar

Bijendra was admitted to Sadar Hospital in Gopalganj on Sunday night and later referred to a medical facility in Patna, where he is undergoing treatment

Actor Pankaj Tripathi's brother was injured after being allegedly attacked with an axe over a land dispute in their ancestral village in Bihar's Gopalganj district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place late on Sunday evening at Belsand village in the Madhopur police station area, they said.

"Bijendra Nath Tiwari was attacked with an axe over a land dispute in his village," ADG (Law and Order) Sudhanshu Kumar said.

Bijendra was admitted to Sadar Hospital in Gopalganj on Sunday night and later referred to a medical facility in Patna, where he is undergoing treatment, officials said, adding that his condition is now stable.

According to a statement issued by the Gopalganj SP office, neighbour Rajesh Shah was arrested in connection with the incident.

"An FSL team inspected the crime scene. The weapon and the blood-soaked cloth worn by the accused have been recovered," it said.

The actor's mother passed away last year at the age of 89.
