Recently, Preity Zinta was granted permission by the Bombay High Court to file a suit against major corporations like Meta and Google over alleged violation of her personality rights for AI-generated deepfake videos and images.

According to a report by Live Law Biz, Preity Zinta’s advocate submitted that the claims in the suit related to alleged breach of personality rights and loss of reputation under the Copyright Act, 1957.

As per the submissions, various forms of digital content that were created and made available to the general public — like memes, manipulated images and AI-generated videos among others — infringed upon her rights and caused damage to her reputation.

The Bombay HC also noted in the submission that all the material allegedly being disseminated was being done so across the world. Preity’s lawyer also submitted that while the alleged breach was being carried on online platforms and respondents had office that were outside its jurisdiction, his client’s identity as an Indian national centre her goodwill and reputation, and the loss of it, within the jurisdiction of the court.

After considering the submissions, the Bombay court allowed the suit to be filed.

On a professional front, Preity Zinta has two releases coming up - Batwara 1947 and Vibe.
